MIMMO WANJUHI. E-COMMERCE MANAGER

What was your first job?

My first job was at Hot 96. I hosted an inspirational show on Sunday morning.

What is it about your job that keeps you up at night?

The uptake of online shopping is slowly catching up in Kenya and sometimes sales can be quite slow. So my mind tends to gravitate more towards "how do we as a team meet our targets while at the same time maintain customer satisfaction?" I have a great team though and therefore the future can only get brighter!

What is the best career advice you have ever gotten?

You can always hit reset at any given time in your career life and especially if you're not happy with where you're at. My late mum also told me that you can't afford to mistreat people because you don't know how they play into your life' purpose. Never burn bridges, it ain't worth it!

What is the first thing you do in the morning when you get to work?

I first make a cup of black coffee, then check my emails.

What is the last thing you think about at the end of the day when leaving work?

I think about my most important tasks and what I'll prioritize the next day.

Who is your mentor and why?

My mum was and still is my mentor. I have always looked up to her. I'm also learning a lot about business and strategy from my boss Wandia Gichuru which is great.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I'm passionate about customer experience and so meeting the clients needs really puts me in a great mood. I also look forward to the weekly design meetings where creativity thrives!

How do you relax post-work?

I really enjoy music in all its elements. Whether it's singing, composing or creating content around music. In fact, I have a band called Mimmosa so look out for my new music! Oh! I love road trips too!

 

CHRISTINE KIMEU. DISPATCH SUPERVISOR

What was your first job?

I was a salesperson at Airtel in Machakos.

What is it about your job that keeps you up at night?

Unprocessed orders. I think about how I’m going to serve my clients better the following day.

What is the first thing you do in the morning when you get to work?

I clear my desk and make sure it’s neat. I believe an organized work space leads to an organized mind, which boils down to the efficiency of my output at work.

What is the last thing you think about at the end of the day when leaving work?

I think about whether all the clients have received their orders because customer satisfaction is always number one on my checklist.

Which is the best career advice you have ever gotten?

There are always going to be hardships wherever you go so no matter what, never give up on doing the things you love. One day it will payoff but it all starts with baby steps.

Who is your mentor and why?

My best friend, Peter Nyaga. I really admire his work ethic. He is such a focused person who goes above and beyond to achieve the things he wants. He is hardworking and most of all, he motivates me a lot to keep on pushing. His foresight is remarkable.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I love processing as many orders as I possibly can because I enjoy my work and if you enjoy the work you do, then it doesn’t stress you out as much.

How do you relax post-work?

Music would be my number one escape. I love to unwind by listening to music, traveling and sleeping.

 

SARAH WANJIRU. ONLINE SALES ASSISTANT

What was your first job?

I was a customer service executive which helped me transition into sales pretty well.

What is it about your job that keeps you up at night?

Keeping up with the latest fashion trends and trying to see how I can be more efficient at work and more accessible to my team.

What is the first thing you do in the morning when you get to work?

I take a deep breath and tell myself that it’s a good day even before it begins. I then say a short prayer and get to work.

What is the last thing you think about at the end of the day when leaving work?

I reflect on the day and if there was a mistake I made, I evaluate myself and try to rectify it the following day.

Which is the best career advice you have ever gotten?

My mum once told me that you have to start small and then work with what you have in order to grow. There's no limitation to what we can do but we all have to start from somewhere.

Who is your mentor and why?

My mother is hands down my top mentor. She motivates me every single day. I have seen her struggle and rise up to where she is now. I just aim to be half the woman she is because I cannot measure up to her wholesome.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I really love it when we meet our targets. It really encourages me to keep going.

How do you relax post-work?

Taking mini-vacations is my thing especially with my lovely husband and beautiful daughter that I love to the moon and back. Escaping with the family to some quiet place where there is no internet or any disturbance and is really peaceful is the ultimate serenity space for me.

 

GILLIAN MUINDU. ONLINE SALES ASSISTANT

 What was your first job?

I first worked as a front desk officer in Athi River. That is where I first learned the importance of good survive.

What is it about your job that keeps you up at night?

I think of the incoming orders that we get past working hours and it keeps me up at night because I can’t serve the clients until the next day when I get to work.

What is the first thing you do in the morning when you get to work?

I reply to the messages that came in when I was away and serve those clients first before doing anything else. 

What is the last thing you think about at the end of the day when leaving work?

I think and consult the riders on whether all the clients I served during the day have received their orders.

Which is the best career advice you have ever gotten?

To be ever cautious in whatever I do. You cannot predict the future and therefore you don’t know who you'll meet and therefore i'm cautious in my approach.

Who is your mentor and why?

My elder brother is my mentor and he is in fact the one who adviced me to be cautious with my actions and what I say.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Processing orders and then sending the clients' our till number because then i'm sure I have closed the deal. lol!

How do you relax post-work?

I really enjoy sleeping. In fact when I get home, I take a nap for around one hour then wake up later to begin cooking.

 

FAITH MUIA. ONLINE SALES ASSISTANT

What was your first job?

I was once a cashier at my brothers' shop and that is where I learnt how to serve clients. I was also good at numbers and all of those factors have come to help me in my role at Vivo.

What is it about your job that keeps you up at night?

Unsatisfied clients keep me up at night. The joy of that satisfaction makes me really happy.

What is the first thing you do in the morning when you get to work?

I first take my coffee to give me the energy to push through the day.

What is the last thing you think about at the end of the day when leaving work?

The clients who I have not been able to serve and how I am going to serve them the following day.

Which is the best career advice you have ever gotten?

I would say, from my brother. He always tells me to do my very best in everything that I do and give it my all.

Who is your mentor and why?

I would still say, my brother. I have seen him toil and work hard to the person he is today. He always reminds me that the impossible is just a myth. Whatever you want just go for it. The world is yours to have.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Processing orders and client appreciation. It’s always good to hear about satisfied clients.

How do you relax post-work?

I listen to a lot of music and I go out with my friends. Work with no play does indeed make Jack a dull boy.
